Education System in Thailand
The education system of Thailand is provided mainly by Thai government through the Ministry of Education. Basic education is divided into six years of primary education and six years of secondary education, the latter being further divided into three years of lower- and upper-secondary levels. Kindergarten levels of pre-primary education, also part of the basic education level, spans 2-3 years depending on the locale, and is variably provided. Non-formal education is also supported by the state. Independent schools contribute significantly to the general education infrastructure.

Based on these aim, the curriculum is designed to permit learners to develop the following characteristics
1. Knowledge and skill in general education subjects and the ability to keep up with academic advances
2. The ability to maintain and enhance personal and community health and hygiene
3. The ability to analyse community problems and choose suitable alternatives for solving them-taking into account various limitations
4. Pride in being Thai; ability to live in peace with others and to willingly help others-within the limits of one's capability
5. Creativity, ability to devise and improve practices which will bring about individual and community progress
6. Good attitudes towards all kinds of honest occupations; love of work and ability to choose occupations relevant to one's aptitudes and interests
7. Basic skill for carrying out honest occupations; skill in mamagement and in working co-operatively with others
8. Understanding social conditions and changes in one's community; the ability to suggest ways of community development; pride in assuming one's roles, duties as a goood community mumber; knowledge of how to conserve and develop the environment, religious and cultural heritage of the community.
The school structure is divided into four key stages: the first three years in elementary school, Prathom 1 - 3, are for age groups 6 to 8, the second level, Prathom 4 through 6 are for age groups 9 to 11, the third level, Matthayom 1 - 3, is for age groups 12 to 14. The upper secondary level of schooling consists of Matthayom 4 - 6, for age groups 15 to 17 and is divided into academic and vocational streams. There are also academic upper secondary schools, vocational upper secondary schools and comprehensive schools offering both academic and vocational tracks. Students who choose the academic stream usually intend to enter a university. Vocational schools offer programs that prepare students for employment or further studies.

The full course requires approximately three years or six semesters. Eech acadamic year is divided into two sumesters, with twenty weeks per semester. A school may offer a summer semester, as deemed appropiate. Each week consists of no less than five learning days, at lest seven perilds per day (one period is fifty minytes long). At least thirty periodes per week are to be allocated to regular teaching/learning in accordance with the curriulum.
